The Origin Story

How The Coffin Master Came to Be

CJ Yapp is the author of Martin the Fartin' Mummy, a six-book children's series about a 2,000-year-old mummy with a gas problem and a heart of gold. Martin lives in New York with the archaeologist family who found him, the kids who keep him out of trouble, and a recurring cast of friends, royals, and villains who keep coming back for more. The books are silly. They're also a real universe, with continuity that runs through every book, and a world CJ has been building for years.

CJ has been fascinated with ancient Egypt for as long as anyone can remember. He loves learning about the pharaohs, the pyramids, and how these ancient people lived. The books came first. The sarcophagi came next.

Each 12-inch sarcophagus is built by hand at CJ's Coffin-Crafting Workstation. Each one opens to reveal a custom figure inside, along with a few hidden surprises. No molds, no mass production, no shortcuts. CJ picks the colors, the themes, and the details. When it's done, it goes up for $20. That's his price. It's always been his price.

The nickname stuck. "The Coffin Master" is what CJ calls himself when he's at the workstation. It's also the brand that grew up around him.

"The website's really for him. CJ is The Coffin Master, and this is his platform."

CJ lives in Oregon. Outside Martin's world, he's a fan of motorbiking, the gym, skiing, and his favorite sci-fi and monster movies. The brand isn't a marketing strategy. It's CJ being CJ, plus a website that finally keeps up.

Where it happens

The Coffin-Crafting Workstation

This is where every sarcophagus comes to life. CJ's workstation is part studio, part workshop, part creative headquarters. The shelves are stocked with paints, Dover Publications sticker dolls, skeleton figures, and whatever materials catch CJ's eye on his latest supply run.

Each piece starts as raw materials and ends as a one-of-a-kind miniature sarcophagus. The process is entirely hands-on. CJ builds the structure, paints the exterior, customizes the skeleton figure, and finishes every detail himself. There's no production line. There's just CJ and his craft.
